This is a frustrating book that highlights both the positives and negatives of Tom Clancy's original books. Like I've said in my other reviews: Patriot Games, Hunt for Red October, and Clear and Present Danger are awesome. Straight out of an All American Marvel comic more like! This never ending change of character and pace is what makes the bear and the dragon great book. I lost alot of respect for Tom Clancy after this book. China's desire to take back Taiwan. Anybody read this and can comment without using the words fascist, sexist, racist? OK...so I like Tom Clancy's "Jack Ryan" books. However, their computer scientists used it 24/7 for whatever projects? It was too long-winded in my opinion and could have been cut down a lot. Overlong, as Clancy books tend to be. However, much of this book was just boring, patently racist, and disturbing in its inability to pull the whole story together with a human dimension in the end. It's an uncomplicated world that's fun for novels and completely irrelevan, This is easily the worst Clancy book I've read. "USA, ra, ra, ra" Pollyanna book so dated with implied feeble China cybersecurity or reform minded Russia. The portrait of an “Elite” Rainbow Force was truly laughable (why even base it in Hereford?). No doubt she was tired of "limp noodles" and appreciated "getting it good" as only an American (and top CIA field agent, let's not forget - may be part of their training, you never know...) can give it, even if he is of Japanese descent and may be, in Clancy's eyes, anatomically-deprived. I love the Jack Ryan character, and Tom Clancy knows how to build slow momentum towards a big climax. Any likeability of the Jack Ryan character is immediately out the window just a few pages in to this book, as he starts spouting his fascist, racist, sexist views. Hard to be interested in people who're so crude to begin with even if they're the, "good guys" not to mention "christians" in this story praying for somebody after they're gone? This one, however, is so disappointing. Siberia still woefully underdeveloped. The end is pretty good as an outline of plot.
